Your Visit
Dr Sachdev is a highly trained and skilled Paediatric Ophthalmologist. She aims to give you the best care and attention in a timely fashion.
Your child’s initial consultation with Dr Sachdev may take up to 1.5 – 2 hours in duration.
Please note that waiting times may be delayed due to the possibility of eye emergencies that require urgent treatment. We thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
What to Bring
Please bring the following to your child’s appointment:
- A referral letter from your child’s Optometrist, General Practitioner or Specialist OR a STEPS screening programme letter. (Without this, you will not be able to receive any rebate from Medicare.)
- Your child’s current spectacles (if he/she requires them).
- An up-to-date medication list summary of your medical history and allergies (if neccessary).
- You and your child’s Medicare card
- Private Health Fund card (if applicable, eg. HCF, MBF, NIB).
- Sunglasses to wear after your child’s assessment, following pupil dilation.
What to Expect
Once you have entered City West Eye Specialists you will be greeted by our friendly Reception Staff. They will request for your personal details and your child’s details to be entered into our system. Following this, your child will be seen by Dr Sachdev, who will perform a thorough assessment of your child’s eyes. You may also see an orthoptist (technician) if special tests are required.
Your child’s initial assessment will involve drops to be instilled. These drops take 30-40 minutes to have maximal effect. Most families go for a walk in the local area whilst waiting for these drops to work. You can wait in our waiting room, if preferable. Following this, Dr Sachdev will complete her examination and discuss any issues with you and your child.
Glasses/Surgery
If glasses are prescribed for your child, Dr Sachdev will provide the prescription for your child on the day. You can take this to any Optometrist of your choice – however, your referring Optometrist is recommended. This can be discussed with Dr Sachdev during your appointment. If surgery is required, Dr Sachdev will discuss the appropriate arrangements with you. Please note, that usually several assessments of your child’s eye are required prior to any surgery being performed.
Payment
Payment is to be made on the day of your appointment. We accept Cash, Eftpos, Visa, Mastercard and Cheque. The cost will depend on several factors, and will be discussed with you by our staff. Our staff will send your claim to Medicare on your behalf through our online system immediately following payment. We will provide you with a receipt of the exact amount, which will be sent to your bank account that is registered with Medicare. Please note that from 1 July 2016, Medicare is stopping cheques being sent to patients, therefore a bank account should be registered with Medicare. We can give you the necessary form to complete, if required.
Parking
Street parking is available on Marion Street and surrounding streets.
Please note that the parking space at the rear of our practice is reserved for patients requiring mobility assistance. We do have wheelchair access from the rear car park. Pram access can also be made at the rear of our building.
